Door Types - Swinging Door

This is a hinged door that swings into or out of a room, and is the most standard interior door application.

Pocket Door

A pocket door is a sliding door that opens by sliding along its length and disappearing into a compartment in the adjacent wall.

Bifold Door

A folding door that has several sections that fold in pairs. Bifolds are most commonly made for closets, but may also be used between rooms.

Barn Door

An interior door option that uses externally mounted hardware to allow the door to slide over an opening without taking the space needed for a swinging door.

Bypass Door

A bypass door consists of two or more sections that can slide in either direction along one axis on parallel overhead tracks, so that they slide past each other. They are most commonly used as closet doors.

Hollow Core Vs Solid Core

When quiet is needed while those around you are more active a Solid Core Door may help facilitate the peacefulness needed.

Jamb Thickness

Standard sizing for prehung doors is 4 9/16 inches; which is common for installation in a standard 2×4 wall.

If your wall is constructed using 2×6 studs then your thickness will be 6 9/16 inches.

Both measurements account for drywall and/or exterior sheathing (for exterior doors).

Left or Right Hand

As you enter the room: Stand with your back to the jamb that has the hinges. If the door is on your right, it’s right-handed. If the door is on your left, it’s left-handed.

If the door swings forward and into the nterior of the room you’re facing, it is an Inswing door. If you are pulling the door towards you it is Outswing
